Electronic dog fences

Some owners find that electronic devices work behavior when other options fail. The negative feedback of the static electric shock, combined with appropriate exercise can help curb unwanted behavior. These devices are used to control the dogs in order to keep the annoying barking dogs, and dogs to avoid certain areas off-limits. In addition there are specific situations where the containment is necessary, and above-ground fencingare not allowed. In a case like this, buried electric fences are the logical alternative. Finally, there are times when the deterrent impact of the behaviors that work is a problem. When other efforts fail and the dog's behavior can lead to removal from the household, electronic collars are a good alternative. This is often the case with dogs that bark incessantly.

ELECTRONIC COLLARS:

If you consider the usecorrection of electronic collars, it is important to learn how they work, how the dog must be trained, and what options are available. These training collars work on the concept that animals learn to avoid the discomfort of a static electric shock, avoiding the situation that caused shock. The use of a transmitter and a collar correction can be used when the owner is not visibly present or touch the dog. Ideally, thedog is believed that the correction caused by the conduct, not the owner, and learn to avoid the behavior, thus avoiding future adjustments. These types of collars are used primarily for proprietary control unwanted behaviors that occur when the dog is physically separated from it.

Not all training collars are the same. When choosing a collar for distance learning, it is important to identify the stimulus that starts the correction, the typecorrection, and the size of the dog that the collar is intended to be used. Also make sure that the collar can be adjusted to different levels of sensitivity (the correction) and for different levels of stimulation (intensity of the correction). Other concerns were the type of battery (rechargeable, replaceable), the weight of the collar, and if it is not waterproof. The combination of these features, you can choose the most suitable collarfor your pet. These collars are available as training collars, which allow the owner to remotely manage corrective stimulation of a response to unwanted behavior, or as an anti-bark collars, which operates a pre-correction in response to bark and do not require the owner are to be present.

electronic training collars consist of a transmitter and a receiver attached to a collar. Usually,The collars have different levels of stimulation. Many have features that allow the owner to the length of the static correction as the change in intensity. Some have the tone of a 'good dog' is that the dog learned to associate with appropriate behavior. These collars require training both owner and pet to avoid problems. It 'may be administered to a correction of an excessive amount of long duration or if a collar is the wrong size dog, or if the owner is frustrated during training. It 'also possible for the dog to associate the correction and shocking rumors going around the dog, do not misunderstand the behavior. exact timing of the correction and 'good' dog tone will reduce any misunderstandings and increase the effectiveness of the shoulders.

Another type of training collar uses a different type of correction to the dog to stop unwanted behavior. This> Collar, static electric shock is replaced by a citronella spray. The dog wears a collar with a small container with citronella connected. The owner initiates a breath away citronella when the dog and 'caught running unwanted behaviors, like digging or jumping on the table. Citronella works because the smells, sounds, feels and looks weird, and really scares the dog stop his unwanted behavior. Coupled with obedience training, citronellacollars often work remotely activated to stop the wrong behavior. The formation of remote trigger can work at 300 meters and the Hills with training information. Buses citronella collar is easy to fill once it is emptied.

Anti-bark collars are a special type of correction collar only to stop nuisance barking. They work on the same principles as training collars, but do not require person to activate them. Instead, correction or throat caused by vibrations or the sound of barking. A dog that cough should never wear a collar like this, because the vibration or the sound of the cough can make the necklace. Unfortunately, some environmental sounds the same. When you use an anti-barking, the dog is initially important to monitor to ensure that no environmental sounds or vibrations of accidental activation> Collar.

There are basically three types of anti-barking collars or other devices. All provide a fix that is activated by the barking and stops when the barking stops. However, they differ in the type of adjustment is provided. Electronic collars deliver a static when the collar senses vibrations of the throat associated with bark. Collars and ultrasonic devices to respond with a high tone is triggered by vibration or noise.Citronella collars react to the sound of barking releasing a puff of citronella Pet address.

As with the training collars, bark collars, anti-electronic connect with the different levels of shock and sensitivity levels. They are available with different battery types and some are waterproof. Some have safeguards to prevent 'accidental activation of the device. Make sure the collar is suitable for the sizeand the weight of the dog to avoid problems.

The second type, an ultrasonic anti-bark is also the ability for the dog, but usually only one level of response. Ultrasonic devices are also available as a freestanding unit that is not necessary that the collar of a dog .. They usually work within 25 meters of the dog that barks and respond by emitting a high frequency sound that disturbs the behavior of the dog and stops when the barking stops. These units have the sensitivityadjustments so that they are adapted to specific situations.

The third type, a citronella collar, works by releasing a puff of citronella when the dog barks. Citronella is contained in a small bus on the dog collar and released in response to the sound of barking. The citronella dog stops in the middle of one auditory cortex "puff", a visible spray and the smell of citronella. The citronella collar is easy to fill when the bus emptied.

NoneWhat type of bark is used when dogs learn their anti-bark is on and working, and will resume barking when the collar is removed or not functioning. This means that most dogs have to wear whenever they are in a situation that triggers barking. So with electronic dog collars will resume barking when the batteries stop working and collars citronella citronella bark like dogs will resume the busemptied. If these collars are used only when the owner is absent and a substitute for good behavior, are not learned, the dogs may need to wear for the rest of their lives when they are left alone.

Entrapment devices:

Other electronic devices are designed to be kept in certain areas and others. The most accepted use of locked gates, often underground electronic fences or gates. These systems are designed for outdoor useand indeed the fence for pets in a garden or an area without the use of a fence outside the ground. They are highly desirable in communities that do not allow fencing structures, since they allow the pet to walk in the yard without the fear that the animal escapes.

These gates use an electric shock to keep pets to pass through a wire buried along the edge of the area that they can run to run. In short, after the cable is buried, the dog in which the perimeter buried. Small flags are used to temporarily mark the boundaries. The dog has a collar approach gives an audible alarm when the limit. If the dog continues toward the boundary, a shock is created by the collar. As with other training collars, the intensity of the shock can be arranged. All systems require a collar with a receiver, a transmitter, boundary wire. The system you buy should come with a> Training manuals, instructional video and boundary flags. The fit should be regulated and of a suitable size for your pet. Varying degrees of adaptation to static electricity sensitive dogs adapt.

As with all training collars, it is essential that proper training of both dog owners and place before using the subway system, so that the system functions properly and that the dog can learn without fear. The dogneed to learn the limits and the use of the beeper to understand. Several practice runs with verbal signals must be performed prior to the use of the transmitter. The videos and manuals must be followed. Misuse, the dog can not understand the point of shock and fear on the part of the yard or outside.

Electric fences have many advantages. As mentioned above, can be used in neighborhoods where fences are not allowed. They are also an inexpensive way to 'add' alarge area for your dog to run and play. They can be used for part of a portion of the garden for your pet. They can not be brought down in a storm, and you can rest assured that your dog does not suddenly run into the road. They can not dig under, jump, or chewed.

There are some concerns to be addressed when using an underground fence. They are really designed to be used when there are problems that may arise in your absence to avoid. Beaware that other animals can enter and leave the yard as they want, even if your pet can not. This means that stray animals can cause problems for your pet. In addition, a great incentive because your pet to 'forget' his education. If a cat crosses the courtyard or a cyclist passing the dog to withstand the shock and the bolt from the yard. Finally, the shock is administered by the distance from the wire, does not proceed. If the dog can not leave the yard and trying to return, shocked when approaching the wire out of the yard. It is also important to remember where he is buried fence to prevent accidental shock. For example, if the fence is done with your way, do not drive with the dog in the car, unless you remove the collar!

When purchasing an underground system of containment, you should find the length and gauge of wire, if the battery is rechargeable or replaceable, and that the system iswith security lighting. Use the heaviest feet of wire that you can afford and do not mix types of wire. Make sure the collar is the temperament and size of your dog. Read the manual, watch videos, and get training tips from others who own pens to increase your success.

The concept of electric fence is no longer used only out-of-doors. Some changes to the collar is that these systems are brought topets away from the rooms or areas that are off limits. There are several on the market. A good example is a simple zoning system called Innotek. Wireless, battery-powered "hot spots" around the areas to be avoided like a basket. When the animal is approaching one of these areas, the pet collar gives a warning signal. Like an electric fence if the dog continues to approach the forbidden area, an electric shock when a fix is issued. The animal learns to avoid areas cause the alarm to avoid the correction. The diameter of each forbidden zone can be set between 2 to 12 meters, so a smaller area can be set for the animal out of the trash and a larger area created to keep the dog away from the table to maintain.

As with any other electrical equipment for training, internal containment systems work best when accompanied by training in obedience. Dogs are smart enough to know that the devices work only when you wear the> Collar. As discussed above, a dog is a correct behavior, no alternative will be gained back to the unwanted behavior, if the correction is made stop. So a dog that has learned to sit or a toy, instead of going into the trash chew shows the behavior of a better 'place' and in the end not to mention the trash at any time. A dog that was just shocked when it is near the trash can learn to avoid it, while wearing the collar, but could return to the minutes of the collar is removed or the batteries must be replaced.

Or a containment system or an anti-collar, no correction of remote devices are designed to replace dog obedience training, exercise and time spent with you. They are not 'quick fix'. However, when used properly, these devices can protect your valuable animals and valuables. They are most effective in preventing unwanted behaviorsoccur when the owner is absent, how to get in the kitchen trash. anti-bark collars can be particularly useful, as nuisance barking usually occurs when the owners are not present to stop it and extremely difficult to stop, even when the owner is present. Anti-Bark collars can stop barking if nothing else works and may prevent the removal of the dog from the premises.

If you decide to go to complete the training regimen with a correction of remote activatedDo your duty. Read, ask questions and talk with others who have used the devices. Develop a training plan that allows your pet to learn acceptable behaviors while learning to make corrections to prevent the bad behavior of the tractor. Explore the difference between the ultrasonic shock, and the units of lemongrass. In many cases, citronella collars may be preferable for the electronic collars to control barking or unwanted behaviors that occur when they are present.static devices are required for fences and burying often used to keep animals away from certain areas or objects if the owner is not present. Choose carefully and follow all instructions to ensure success.

If you go to buy an electronic collar dog training knowledge to work to find different types, which differ in the street. The most people are familiar with the electronic shock collar, which provides a low voltage charging dog attention you get. There are two other types of electric shock collars, one that works by emitting a high pitched sound that dogs are very annoying and the other choicea citronella collar that works by spraying citronella in front of the dog's nose. Dogs do not particularly like the smell of citronella. Regardless of the version chosen, all the work through your attention and annoying dogs in an unpleasant way. Dogs, like people, will do what is necessary to prevent these failures, even if it means to obey their owners.

Using an electronic collar dog training is easy enough, but remember, youonly a tool to help you get the results you want with your dog. The collar will not train your dog for you, a tool that allows you to punish your dog if you do not obey your orders. For example, when training your dog to sit, give instructions to "sit", firmly but gently on the lower back, so take your dog in a sitting position. You must do this several times so the dog understands what you're asking to do. Only after the dog, to show moreSometimes you have to do a specific job, try and convict without any human intervention for the grant, which is pushed, but down. A dog that detects a rapid and obedient is to be praised and rewarded with a treat. If the dog refuses to obey it's time for the use of electronic collars. After gathering the attention of your dog with a head start by giving the command and pushing his hind legs down in a sitting position and repeat 'whole process again.

Aof the most popular applications for electronic dog training collar is the invisible fence. Running a thin wire around the outside of your garden, the dog sets an alarm when your dog approaches the boundary plot the dog learns to stay home and not astray. If the dog ignores the beep, and continues to approach the edge of the collar will turn to a low degree of shock that is. Soon the dog learns to recognize thewhistles and what it means to ignore the warning. It should be noted that while this method works with most dogs if the dog is aggressive, no amount of wheezing, citronella, or an electric shock which prevents him from walking through an invisible boundary fence.

Using an electronic collar dog training is a good alternative to training long and hard to train dogs used for its intended purpose. This type of collar should beused as a tool to help change the behavior of a dog. It should never be used as a way to punish or otherwise inflict unnecessary pain for a dog. Properly used the only chance you have to use it sparingly and in a short time your dog will learn to obey your commands without.

If you have a dog that has a lot of behavioral problems, particularly aggression, and you can not find an answer to help with this problem. Then you start thinking about looking at addressing the problems and shock collar dog training at. In anticipation of purchasing this device I can assure you aware of this very important issue that uses it only as a last resort after exploring all other available routes on offeryou to deal with aggressive dog issues.

This product has been viewed by many as a product that should never have been produced to begin with and an owner who uses a shock collar for their dogs is inhumane.

The fact is that the dog training shock collar shock not only a dog that usually come with three kits and these are: shock (obviously), vibration and noise. Each of these applications can be used alone or incombination and you will see a range of intensity levels that anyone can set the device for use in dogs. All changes can be automatically activated when the dog barks or moves in a strong front or can be distributed via a remote control in the hands of the owner.

E 'destined to be the collar of his set at a level that is activated when the dog shows signs had been removed in what they express their hostility. Once you find a level that makes your dog is the level that keeps the device.

To give you the exact level of each dish of dog, you should always start the lowest setting possible to find and then work your way up. My advice and the recommendation is that the shock setting possible to avoid this is easily done simply by using the vibration and sound characteristics alone.

So I personally do not believe that a dog training shock> Collar is brutal, I would use it only as a last resort with a dog that is difficult issues hostilities. I would you like to your veterinarian before buying one, because it will be able to tell if your dog is ok medical uses.

Collar - Just Another Quick Fix '

If a dog behaviorist methods for over 20 years I have seen 'quick fix' come and go. But typical of these devices, such as bark collars, only treat the symptoms and do nothing for the conduct of the cause of it. Cortex, as is the case with most behavior "bad" is just a byproduct of a bigger problem. If the cause of a problem is not focused on the behavior is sure to continue.

There are many reasons why a dog barks and some of them are perfectly valid. Ifthe dog is barking to an external stimulus, it will be more effective in the long run to become familiar with what the dog barking. If the barking of anxiety, stress or anxiety, a bark collar, or a shock collar or citronella, will only worsen the situation. The reason is that the dog is negative reinforcement received when it is stressed. More stress equals more fear and anxiety and the cycle continues. Even if the e-collardone to stop barking, it is very likely that an entirely new problem worse, and probably the most common is to create self-mutilation. A better result is obtained by teaching the dog at ease in any situation where they do not feel the need to bark. But for that to occur it is essential to determine why your dog barks, in the first place.

I am strongly against electronic collars for dogs, because I've always been able to solve problemswithout them. I would never point to one of my clients that their dog or inject shots in the face with a harmful substance. The only type of electronic collar that I feel is of benefit is a vibrating collar for a deaf dog. This is a way to communicate with your dog, if you can not hear. It is a kind of 'small' dogs for your attention. Other than that, I think the consistent praise-based training is a very effective trainingcompared with electronic collars.

Do Barking Collars Really Work?

Do you have a pet dog? If you have, then you know that a barking dog can be quite a nuisance that disturbs and startles pedestrians. If you have a loud pet, then you are also aware that keeping your neighbors awake at night is also a big no-no. A dog's bark can be irritating, even for the dog's loving owner. Wayward dogs in need of gentle, human correction can be cured by barking collars. However, you have to make sure that you understand why your dog is barking before you start a barking collar treatment.

A dog may bark constantly because of several things. A dog will inevitably bark if the animal is kept in an area that is fenced off, but with a clear view of annoyances like loud cars and noisy kids. Things will only get worse if you have a neighbor who regularly walks by, and perpetually yells at or scares your pet. You should talk to the neighbor and ask him to treat the dog properly if this is the case with your pet.

Hunger, thirst, excessive heat and cold can make your pet an overly vocal canine. Remember that dogs need food, water, and a cozy indoor spot during extreme weather. Barking collars may be your last resort if you've checked all of the above possibilities. Some people may either consider barking collars humane or inhumane, but I'll tell you about all of them for the sake of information.

Spray barking collars are popular devices that can reduce your dog's barking. This collar has a device in the front that is positioned directly beneath the dogs' chin. An unpleasant smelling spray is emitted whenever the dog barks. Dogs don't like a spray in their noses, and the sound may also startle them. This treatment is considered by most to be humane because it is not painful.

Choke barking collars are considered safe but these collars may be scary for your dog. This collar automatically constricts, in a choking action when the dog barks. It has a sensor that detects the correct width at which to close. However, these barking collars can malfunction and choke the dog to death.

People consider shock barking collars cruel and inhumane so they are not commonly used today. This device may also cause a negative effect on the dog. This is because a dog will develop an association with what or who caused him to bark. For instance, if a child causes the dog to bark which will then cause the collar to chock the animal, then you may have a dangerous situation. Since a dog doesn't know barking is wrong, the animal may think that looking at that person or object is wrong. A dog may associate the child with his pain, and may attack him as soon as the collar comes off.

Selecting Quality Dog Training Leads

Every professional dog handler and trainer has a specific lead they prefer. Let's face it the lead is that provides the direct contact between the trainer and the dog. There are a lot of dog training leads on the market today. Training leads are available in any pet store and are usually sold in the nylon and leather variety, though leather is definitely more expensive. Ideal leads for specific dogs vary in accordance of the dog's size, breed, and level of energy. For a small dog breed, a six feet lead would be suitable. For larger dog breeds, ideal training leads may be more than 20 feet long.

There are specialty training leads that are used various training scenarios. Check cords are used when training bird dogs when teaching the dog to whoa on command and remain steady at the shot. These leads are generally made of rope and are designed to easily slip through cover so as not to hinder the dog during its normal search pattern used to locate the scent of the game birds. If the dog does not whoa on command the handler normally steps on the lead to correct the dog.

Quality dog training leads used for police work are usually made of leather or shock cord. Depending on the type of mission the dog is trained for these working leads range from 6 to 12 feet. Dogs used to search for contraband at airports and other transportation sites are trained on longer leads so that the dog can access the locations being searched.

For the average person training his or her own dog a good dog training lead will assure that the dog will remain safe during the initial training period. Training your dog to walk at heel takes time. Distraction such as other animals or vehicles can cause a dog to move into a dangerous situation. Many times the only way to keep a dog from chasing a squirrel into traffic is to affectively use the training lead. Even the use of an electronic collar is not as effective a tool in this situation.

You may have to select several leads and collars before you find the right combination for you and your dog. If you are using the services of a professional dog trainer he or she will have valuable insight as to what collar you should purchase for your training activities.

Training the Show Dog To Gait

To the casual observer it does not appear that a Show Dog needs to know a lot in order to show. It is easy to believe that all the dog does is run around and stand still and let the judge examine him. In reality, a polished Show Dog has been well trained and it has taken a number of years and/or a lot of practice to get to the point where he presents a flawless picture to the judge.

The dog often gaits naturally but sometimes the dog wants to pace instead. A dog who paces does not present a smooth flowing picture to the judge and furthermore it is often more difficult to discern whether he is moving straight in the front. A judge does not want the dog to run around for no reason. While the dog moves, the judge wants to view his movement from the front, from the rear and from the side. During the movement, he needs to ascertain whether the dog has a good front (relative to the dog's breed) and whether he has a good reach and drive, whether he is covering the ground correctly with the least wasted motion and proving that his structure is sound. If the dog looks up at the handler or skittishly prances or does not maintain a straight line while gaiting, no matter how beautifully he might move or how well he is balanced, the judge will not see this for his movement will be thrown out of balance with these behaviors.

Therefore the dog must be trained to move in balance and at the correct speed and also to change speed from slow to fast without being choppy in his movement. The dog must also be taught to break into a trot rather than pacing. This is easiest to accomplish by first teaching the dog the heel, which is a walk at the left side of the handler so that his head is on a parallel with the handler's knee. The handler should speed up the pace and see to it that the dog is gradually breaking into an easy trot. If the dog begins to pace or it is a more natural movement for him than the trot, the handler usually will execute a turn that will bring the dog into a correct position to break into a trot. The dog must also be taught not to look anywhere except straight ahead while he is heeling, as this will throw off the movement of the front. So the handler needs to be quite aware of the motions of the dogs head and reward the dog when he is looking straight to the front. Furthermore, he needs to practice a lot with the dog heeling, alternately speeding up and slowing down and maintaining an easy trot rather than a walk while the dog is in the heel position. This can be accomplished with clicker training, or voice control by praising the dog at the exact moment that he is performing correctly.

A knowledgeable handler also needs to learn to walk well himself, with a longer stride when he wants the dog to speed up and a slower stride (but not shorter steps) when he wants the dog to trot with a slower action. If the handler breaks into shorter steps himself, he will throw the dog into a shorter and choppier movement. So it is important that the handler practice also, to walk and to run so as not to detract from the natural and balanced movement of the dog.

Training Your Dog to Ride in a Car

Teaching your dog to ride in your car is not very hard to do in most cases. After careful introduction to the "big monster", most will look forward to going for a ride with their owner: especially when they recognize the preparations for the outing! It's really heart warming to watch a dog when he sees his master or mistress jingling the car keys! The dog seems to say "Oh Boy, Let's Go!" as the tongue hangs out, the smile starts and the tail wags furiously! But some other dogs are not so joyous at getting into a car. Some are even terrified and show visible signs of distress such as shivering, drooling and carsickness. Lots of time this is the result of a dog or puppy that was incorrectly introduced to the "big monster". Sometimes, in extreme cases, no training will help. Your veterinarian can subscribe the appropriate sedatives in these cases.

The dog or puppy's introduction to your car should be an association to things he likes and enjoys doing. A good training program will begin by not feeding the dog for several hours before the trip and also by not giving him any water for about 5-6 hours before departure. This way if he does get carsick and vomit it won't be too hard on his stomach and clean up will be easier. Also, he'll be in a bit sharper mood for his "training".

Since most every dog enjoys a good romp with his owner and loves tasty treats, a good starting plan would be to pack up his treats, put him in your car and drive to a short walking distance of your home to a nearby park or field. Making sure his collar and leash are on, let him out of the car and run and play with the dog on the field giving lots of praise and encouragement, (good dog!!!), with laughs and smiles and really mean it! Stop once in awhile and give him a favorite treat, then praise again and start romping and playing. Do this for a short period of time, about 15-20 minutes. Then, instead of getting back into the car to drive home, simply walk home. This will give the dog the association that the car does not mean the end of fun playtime.

Increase the distances from your home a little further at each outing. When you start to see that your dog is looking forward to the trips, you can then, at the end of your romp, re-introduce your dog to the car and put him in for the drive home. It is best at first to stop for at least one romp on the way home. Eventually, he'll not only look forward to going into the car for a ride, but he will jump into it for the ride home!

Concern for your dog's safety while riding in your car should be an important priority to you, the owner. There are all kinds of safety devices made for dogs on the market today. You can buy safety harnesses, gates and crates to secure your dog while driving. It's not "cute" or "cool" to have your dog running back and forth in the bed of your pick-up truck while you are driving forty miles per hour down the road! It's downright dangerous and in some counties, even against the law. Don't let your dog stick his head out of the window to smell all of the wonderful and enticing aromas either. His eyes and ears will soon begin to develop problems and you might have to take him to the vet for a visit that could have been prevented.

These training tips and techniques should be able to help you introduce your dog to the "big monster"! Don't forget to always ensure that your dog is properly restrained in your car! With your encouragement and love, it will probably take you hardly any time at all to get your dog to eagerly jump into the car for a ride!

Dog Barking Collars

Dog barking collars can offer a solution to excessive dog barking. A dog barking collar may be just what you need to help control your barking dog. An easier and better way to stop all the noise can be to observe carefully why the dog is barking. Dogs bark for a reason and if you find the reason, simple steps may stop the yapping.

If you decide to get training collars, you have three basic options.

Citronella Spray Collar

A citronella collar sprays a mist of citronella oil at the dog's nose when the the barking starts. If you've ever been around citronella oil, you know how strong the odor is. It will not hurt the dog, but it isn't pleasant. To avoid the spray, most dogs will stop barking while the collar is on. Some studies have shown the citronella collar to be twice as effective as a shock collar.

Electronic Collar

An electronic shock collar stings the dog with an electrical impulse if the dog barks. Most dogs stop barking quickly to avoid the electrical jolt. The electrical jolt can be very painful to the dog and many people see these collars as inhumane. Also in many cases the control only works when the collar is on and the batteries are charged. Also the shock collar sometimes produces fearful, frustrated dogs. If the underlying cause of the barking isn't dealt with, the collar is only a short-term solution.

Ultrasonic Collar

A barking dog triggers the ultrasonic collar to produce a high-pitched noise unpleasant to the dog but not audible to humans. These work with some dogs, but not all. Since you can't hear the noise, it's difficult for you to tell whether it's working or not. Choose one of these over using a shock collar.

There is a place for dog training collars for controlling barking. Better to find the cause of the barking and deal with the cause if possible before using a collar. Pick the citronella collar over the shock collar.

Buying An Electronic Dog Training Collar Doesn't Have To Be Shocking

The attractiveness of training dogs should not be cliched at the very least. Dogs are born to be pets. When trained properly, dogs can render support and affection more than what they were born with. Hence, the old adage, "A dog is a man's best friend," is not a sheer cliché.

However, in spite of the innate qualities of dogs, it is still important to train them to develop the skills that they possess. By nature, dogs are obedient animals. However, because of their character, training is important.

For this reason, numerous obedient trainings and advanced schooling programs were created to develop the necessary skills in dogs. The basic obedience skills such as sit, walk, or lie down are usually taught.

To do this, the help of a professional dog trainer can be very helpful. However, if you do not have the budget for it, you may opt to train your dogs all by yourself. You just have to equip yourself with the right tools and equipments.

Among the various devices needed to train dogs, dog training collars are the most important. Dog training collars helps the owner control the behavior of the dog, thereby, creating an air of authoritativeness over the dogs. Hence, dogs can easily understand that they have a master to follow.

One of the most common types of collars used by non-professional trainers or simply dog owners themselves is the electronic dog training collars. Although quite controversial, electronic dog training collars are effective if used properly.

Electronic dog training collars had created such media hype when quite a number of dog owners have discreetly denounced their use. The issue is focused on the outright infliction of pain caused by electronic currents that run from the collar to the dog's skin. These electric currents can create shock, which can be very harmful for the dog.

However, experts say that when used properly, electronic dog training collars can be effective in training dogs and in managing dog behavioral problems. In fact, an electronic dog training collar can be safe and effective if the trainer or user knows how to operate the device properly.

In essence, electronic dog training collars create electric shock that warns the dog how to respond appropriately. The main purpose of producing electric shock is to assist the dog trainer during training sessions and in controlling behavior of your dog.

Nevertheless, not all electronic dog training collars are created equal. Each has its own distinction depending on the make of the product and its feature benefits.

Here are some tips in buying electronic dog training collar.

1. Budget

Electronic dog training collars can be very expensive. If you do not have the budget for it, buying an electronic dog training collar can be a problem.

So before you decide on a particular type of electronic dog training collar, try to see first if your budget can afford it.

2. Function

Each type of electronic dog training collar has its own distinct function. Hence, it is best that you know what you want in an electronic dog training collar.

For example, if you want to control the route of your dog whenever he walks, you can use a training collar that will fit near your dog's nose. The electronic shock will direct him which way to go. If you want to control your dog's behavioral problem such as excessive barking, try to use an electronic dog training collar that has a transmitter device attached at the collar placed near the dog's neck.

3. Breed

In buying an electronic dog training collar, you also have to consider the dog's breed. For smaller breeds, it is best to buy collars that will fit on their little necks. Moreover, this type of dog training collar has additional training device that will facilitate the training process.

4. Kind of training

If you are trying to correct canine behavioral problems, it is best to use remote electronic dog training collar. The transmitter can send signals to the collar as far as 300 feet. Hence, you do not have to be in close proximity with your dog just to train him whenever he gets into annoying behaviors.

All of these things can help you choose the best electronic dog training collar. Coupled with good knowledge about the product, electronic dog training collar is, indeed, one of the most effective training tools available in the market today.

Why You Should Consider an Invisible Dog Fence For Your Pet

Most people know about invisible dog fences nowadays. How many of us fully realize how they work and what they have to offer our canines? They may be extremely complex units with regards to functions, but the fundamental principles remain the same with nearly all invisible dog fences. Like every electronic product these days, they're improving fast. Keeping up with the technology can be tough, but not nearly as complicated as learning to operate a new computer.

Invisible dog fences are affordable, and that is one of the best benefits that these products offer. They do not require a lot of maintenance. My traditional wood fence has to be stained every year, and believe me that is not fun at all. Had I put in an electronic fence instead, things would have been much easier, and cheaper.

These types of systems are very effective. It does take some training, but with proper training, they really do work. Besides being effective, if used properly, they are very safe and humane for your dog. I know that there are people on both sides of the fence here, but my research and first hand experiences have led me to believe that they are truly humane. My dogs are loving and faithful, and much of it is due to the fact that they have rules. They trust me. I believe that any pet product can be inhumane. It all depends in whose hand the tool is.

They do take training, but the training is easy and can be accomplished by anyone willing to give it a few minutes each day. Most all of these products come with very great training videos, and instructions for proper use. PetSafe®, Innotek®, and Sportdog®, are the most popular pet fence systems on the market. They are all manufactured by Radio Systems Inc.®. As long as you have purchased one of these 3 brands from an "authorized retailer", you have complete access to their support (800 number) offered. They are excellent at helping with any questions or concerns.

Another of the benefits that the electronic pet fence has given my front yard as opposed to the traditional fence around my back yard is a great view. This is not something that a lot of people think about or are concerned with, but I have really enjoyed not having a barricade around my entire house. I do admit, the privacy in back is good, but what was once a nice view of the mountains is now a view of my fence.

Pet containment fences are some of the most sought after pet products on the Internet these days, but the main thing I see is that people are not fully aware of the capabilities and what they can really offer your pet. Used properly, I have seen them do remarkable things. My buddy's dog won't go past the edge of the sidewalk, even when strangers and other dogs walk by. He doesn't even know that there is no power to the fence. This is proof that if done right, they do work.

7 Common Dog Training Collars

Choke Collars(also called choke chain, slip chain, slip collar):
The choke collar is a length of material (nylon, chain) with a circular ring on either end. The chain is slid through one of these rings to form a loop and is slid around the top of the dog's neck, just behind the ears. and rest's on its neck. When the dog displays an undesirable behavior a slight pull is used to alert the dog that it has done something undesirable. it is vital to note that improper use of this collar can result in injury and even death of the dog. There are three popular types of choke collars: the limited choke collar, the choke chain, and the snap-around.

Prong Collars (also called pinch collars):
The prong collar is made of a series of metal chain links with blunted open ends turned towards the dog's neck so that, when the collar is tightened, it pinches the loose skin around the dog's neck creating a nudging sensation on the dog's neck.

Electronic Collars:
Electronic collars are designed to discharge a shock, odor, or high pitched sound. Included in these types of collars are the Electronic Shock, Audio, and Citronella. These electronic collars are controlled mainly by remote. The shock collar sends an electronic shock to the dog's neck which is strong enough to be uncomfortable for the dog, but not physically harm him, when he displays undesirable conduct. The force of the shock can generally be changed from very slight to a more extreme sensation. The Citronella Collar sprays an odor that is foul to most dogs. The Audio Collar discharges a high pitched sound that humans can't hear...most dogs can and does not like it.

Martingale Collars:
The martingale collar is similar to the choke collar. The difference is the martingale collar has only a section on it that will tighten when pulled where as the choke collar will tighten with no fixed limit.

Clickers:
The clicker is a small plastic box with a metal strip inside that makes a "clicking" sound when the metal strip is pressed and released. Clicker is a type of training used to proper condition a dog to respond in a particular way and to mark a behavior that will be rewarded.

Head Halter:
The head collar (similar to a halter on a horse) in general consists of two loops. One loop goes behind the ears and the other goes over the dog's nose and they meet below the dog's jaw to help prevent the dog from pulling and straining. Head collars control the neck, head, and nose and the concept behind it is that if you have control of the head, you have control of the body. Head collars can be excellent for controlling even the strongest dogs.

No Pull Harness:
Unlike standard neck collars, which control a dog by attaching to the neck or head, the no-pull harness, as with any harness is worn on the body of the dog (usually at the shoulder blades) to teach it not to pull or tug, in a calm, pleasant manner. It makes it harder for the dog to pull while it is wearing the harness.

How to use the Remote Dog Training Collar

To choose the remote dog training collar is one of the most popular ways to train your favorite pet and man's best friend. These remote electronic dog training collars help us train our pet, for a family pet, or for your use in a profession. The remote training electronic dog collars will allow your pet to achieve a new level of obedience. The problem is there are many different types of remote dog training collars available and you are not sure what you need. Electric Dog Collar Electronic dog collars have come a long way over the years. A good remote electric dog collar should have good range. To teach the dog using electronic dog training collar, it should be worn for at least a couple of weeks. You should also make sure to take off the electric dog collar 4-5 times a day. This removing the electric dog collar will teach the dog to remember the shock feeling with the electronic collar being off. That way the dog learns that this is a good feeling. You should also teach the dog using electronic dog training collar in a fenced area. The shock amount should be enough to just turn the dogs head. Use it Like a Leash CorrectionUsing electronic dog training collar is nothing more than a leash that is not there (invisible). The electric dog collar should be used in the same way as you would use a leash. The dog should be introduced to the electric dog collar. To think that just by putting the electric dog collar on the dog will train animal, this is incorrect. The act of putting the dog collar on the dog has meaning for the dog, rotating the prong all have meaning. You must also learn the art of pushing the buttons to get the best results.

Some people say that using the electric dog collar is like eating chocolate. There is nothing wrong with eating small amounts, but then there are some who think this is wrong. Never the less, used in small amounts, both are harmless and the dog likes both of them. The harm occurs when there is too much chocolate eaten, but no one has a hard and fast rule to what is OK for the dog and what is not. The electric dog collar gives out a small electric shock and should not be what you would get if you stuck your finger in an electric outlet.A cheap dog shock collar should be subtle in the way that they work. On cheap dog shock collars, you should use a level of shock that is minimal to achieve the obedience that you need. The shock should not frighten or hurt the animal. It can be quite easy to be abusive using electronic dog training collar. For this reason the average dog owner should not use the electric dog training collar. You need some experience when using electric dog training collar. The biggest thing is the dog should not be the one treated inhumanely or with cruelty. This is easy to do if you are careless in using the electric dog collar. You have to understand how the dog is feeling, and how the dog is reacting to the level of shock that is being emitted. What you have to do is determine the purpose of using the electric dog collar or consider the alternatives to make sure the dog is treated properly as well as trained with the best of care. For more information on this topic as well as other pet topics then visit: Remote Dog Training Collar

Magnetic Dog Doors

Magnetic dog doors are designed especially for dogs wearing magnetic keys on their collar. It helps to keep strays and other animals out of the house. The doors provide an extra security by allowing entry of dogs wearing magnetic collar keys only.

Magnetic dog doors reduce common behavior problems such as destructive chewing, clawing furniture, and excessive barking. The dogs simply wear a magnet attached to their collars, and it is then identified by a sensitive, fast reacting electromagnetic circuit. A 4-way locking system is used to control the dog's movements into and out of your house. The door latch will automatically close after the pet has entered the system. The depth can be increased by using an optional tunnel extension.

Dog Bark Collar - Uses of Electronic Dog Training Collars

The Cruelty Myth

There is much evidence in the professional dog training world that bark collars and other types of electronic dog collars offer a much faster and reliable method for gaining the desired results from your dog. Some people may still have the misconception that there is something cruel or inhumane about the electric collars, but this is actually not the case.

Electronic dog collars have come a long way from the early days of training technology, and are not to be confused with "shock collars", which didn't have a very wide range and didn't have any variability in the strength of the pulse that was administered or the duration. With today's modern training systems, this is no longer the case.

There is no evidence at all that there are any adverse effects for the dogs, be it physically, mentally or neurologically.

Barking Control Systems

These no-bark collars are designed with the same reliable electronics found in the popular hunting training collars.

Today's electronic collars come in several varieties, are not nearly as bulky and awkward as early models were, and are ideal for safely and humanely training any dog to stop excessive barking, Today's collars are flexible enough that you can find the type and level of stimulation that works best for your dog in any training situation.

Dogs with excessive barking are a hindrance to neighbors, visitors, as well as family members. Correcting this bad behavior quickly and humanely is the best thing to do. Electric barking collars offer just the solution for your barking problem.

Hunting and Gun Dogs

In the case of hunting or "gun dogs", there is the added benefit of having a remote control for your electronic collar. When you are in the field, there will always be distance between yourself and your dog, so the ability to correct behavior from a distance is important and useful.

Electronic dog collars are capable of transmitting to a range from a quarter of a mile up to two miles, depending on the type you choose to buy. The collar basically works by a battery located within the collar that emits an electronic pulse, carried to the dog by small prongs or nodes inside the collar, and today's models give a wide variety of pulse intensity and duration.

Many electronic dog collars are designed for the outdoor enthusiast and hunter, and are made to withstand the abuse that a rambunctious four legged friend can give it, so they are made for durability. Many models of collars are made to be waterproof, as well as their transmitters to increase their reliability while hunting in the field.

Some electronic collars come with the capability to train more than one dog on one system, and both of these features would be attractive to hunters.

Types and Uses for Dog Training Collars

Some models come with beepers, which use modern radio tracking and cell phone technology to allow you to keep track of the location of your dog.

Some models come with bird launchers; most models will come with a wide range of stimulation so that the hunter or trainer can deliver a very light "nick" to stronger pulses for more stubborn or important situations at will.

Many models of electronic dog collars also come with the ability to either deliver one short nick to more constant stimulation depending upon the need, and this is decided by the trainer and administered from the remote transmitter.

There are even some models of electronic collars that are made especially for training dogs and only emit a vibration without electronic pulses, and other models that can deliver a spray of something the dog really doesn't enjoy such as citronella in order to correct behavior and again, all delivered from the hand held transmitter, and can be sent over a wide range of distance.

Essentially what you end up with from an electronic dog collar is the ability to quickly and effectively communicate your desires and commands to your dog in a way that you can easily manage and ultimately, a well behaved dog, and a well trained hunting companion.

Electronic Flea Collars - Do They Really Work

Electronic Flea collars may be the newest weapon in the war on dog fleas. Dogs have been mans companion for thousands of years. Dogs serve mankind in ways that cannot be duplicated by technology. Unfortunately the parasites that our dogs carry have plagued mankind as well. Fleas are a constant irritant to man and dog as well as vector for disease. In the past the best way to get control fleas on your pet was to wash and comb them on a regular basis. The development of pesticides like DDT went a long way in treating our dwellings and animals for many years. However many of these pesticides also had side effects or were damaging to the environment. In addition many of these pesticides were ineffective on fleas.

In the early 1960s time release pesticide technology was married to plastics to make the modern day flea collar. They were hailed as the cure for all flea problems. They did a good job of reducing flea bites on most animals that were under severe and constant attack. They did not solve the problem of flea infestations in homes or kennels. In addition the chemical caused skin irritation or dermatitis on many animals that was worse than the flea bites. Also the collars were most effective only on the front half of the dog causing some people to place a second collar around the dog's waist and belly. One thing the new collars did was to kill the dreaded ticks. Tick will crawl the highest point on a dog before taking in the blood meal. This mean they will try to crawl past the flea collar on the way to the dogs head placing them in contact with the insecticide. This makes the collar a great way to stop ticks but leaves much to be desired when it comes to controlling fleas. All of which cause many people to consider using an electronic flea collar.

Before you lay out the money for an electronic flea collar you should consult with your dogs Vet. Most Vets will tell you that the most effective method of controlling fleas is through the use of topically applied flea medication. Most dog owners are familiar with Advantage, Frontline and the Program brands of flea medication. They all use a chemical growth regulator methoprene that prevents flea larva from developing into an adult. These medications have been shown to be very affective in solving flea problems. In fact a dog that has the medication on it can literally remove all the fleas in a house over a month long time period. Adults bite the dog and then drop off to lay eggs then die. These eggs hatch and the larva die. So why would you consider using any other method of flea control?

Many dog owners are concerned about the side affects of methoprene on their animals and as a result are looking for flea control alternatives. Electronic pest control devices are divided into several different types. Some use high pitched or ultrasonic sound to repel all insects and spiders while others use devices that produce an electromagnetic field to repel pests. Recently a new technology was developed that using ionic air cleaning. Basically they all claim to drive the pests away from the area that they are placed in. Electronic flea collars use the same technology to achieve to drive the fleas away. The bottom line question is does these device work? Entomologists and other researchers have determined that these electronic flea collars do not perform as claimed. Electronic flea collar manufactures have not, to date, provided any scientific proof that their products perform as claimed. They all use of customer testimonials as a selling point for their products which future makes their claims less than credible. It appears that it is far better to use the topically applied flea medications to protect the health, comfort and well being of your dog. Given the facts I would assert that it is unwise to depend on any electronic flea collar to protect your dog from fleas.

Dog Barking Control Made Easy - How to Stop Excessive Barking Immediately

Now that we are living closer together in apartments, condos or houses built close to each other, there is a growing need for owners to control their barking dogs. Consistent or excessive barking can be annoying to both the owner and their neighbor. The ideal way to control the barking is by training the dog when it's appropriate to bark and then to stop on your command. However, with owners working long hours or who just have hectic schedules just don't have the time to train the dog. Training not only takes time but it also takes consistency and patience. Training is not an immediate solution and you will not get overnight results. Please note: If your dog is a fear barker i.e. barking and running with its tail between its legs and ears flat back or your dog is aggressive please consult your veterinarian or a professional before trying any type of bark control!

This article describes immediate solutions to control a dog's barking habits. There are many products on the market today to stop a barking dog. The three main types are bark collars, stand alone systems and devices where you are in total control of when the dog gets a correction. All these devices are either ultrasonic, spray or electronic.

Based on my research of reviews of all these products the ultrasonic collar doesn't seem to work very well for most dogs but the ultrasonic systems can be effective. The ultrasonic systems are stand alone devices and are made for either indoor or outdoor use. You simply place the device in your home or yard and when the dogs barks it emits an ultrasonic sound humans can't hear and it distracts the dog from barking. A lot of people use the outdoor systems to control the barking of their neighbor's dog. There are also handheld ultrasonic devices where you simply press the button when you want to deliver a correction. This can also be useful if you are bothered by barking dogs when you go for a walk, jog or cycle.

The most effective collars are either the citronella spray collars or the electronic bark collars. The citronella collars emit a spray when the dog barks. It distracts them plus they don't particularly like the smell of citronella. People have had good success with this type of bark collar but it really depends on the dog's personality. If your dog is the happy go lucky type and really wants to please you then you have a good chance this collar will work for you. If your dog is hard headed and stubborn, barks at anything and everything, then you'll probably have more success with an electronic bark collar. Great strides have been made with these collars over the past few years where you have much more control over the amount of correction the dog receives when he barks.

Dog Training - Invisible Fences

Many rural developments are springing up, developments, which are governed by "home owners' associations". Sometimes these groups insist on a ban of regular fencing because it will mar the beauty of their development. In such cases, some dog owners consider the installation of an invisible fence. Invisible fences consist of underground wires, which will carry a current when a dog wears a collar. The collar will buzz the animal when it gets too close to the fence. The theory is that this will stop the dog and deter him from going further. Sometimes this is effective and sometimes not.

There are certain details, which a property owner should consider before installation of an invisible fence. For one thing, dogs who are long coated may need to have the coat around the neck area shaved so that the electric current can make enough contact with the skin for the dog to feel it. Also, dogs whose bodies are so constructed that they have loose folds of skin (called dewlap) beneath the chin may also have fewer nerve cells in that region and may be less affected by the electrical current. For another thing, there are dogs who are completely unaffected, in other words, they could care less. They may get the shock but it does not matter to them because whatever it is that they want on the other side of the fence motivates them more than the shock deters them. Unless such a dog is trained to respect the boundaries through some other manner, the invisible fence will not matter.

The age at which the dog is introduced to the fence is important. Animal behaviorists recognize that puppies have definite "fear stages" which will occur during certain periods. Usually for most puppies, this is around the eighth week and again around the eighth month of their lives. This theory has been well researched and documented. When a puppy is introduced to the electric or invisible fence, the owner needs to be aware of the puppy's fear stages and whether or not the dog is psychologically ready to accept such a shock. If the puppy is in a fear stage and the breed of the dog is also a breed, which can be quite timid the invisible fence can do more damage than good, traumatizing the puppy so much that he doesn't even want to be outdoors at all. Also, puppies who are naturally quite timid and submissive in their behavior, regardless of their breed, can react in much the same way. When the electric collar is on the puppy, owners must be aware that they should be present to watch for such adverse reactions and step in with positive reinforcement when the dog is stopping before it approaches the "zapping zone" of the electrical current.

There is another side of the picture to consider also. Invisible fences only work for the animal who is wearing the collar. Property owners with such fences often overlook the fact that their yards have no protection against possible predators or such dangers as packs of wild dogs, who have no barrier to cross to enter their property. Small dogs have been known to be attacked by predators who would not have been able to enter the premises if there had been a normal fence preventing their entrance.

In any case, people who are using invisible fences for the containment of their dog need to realize that using such a fence requires some vigilance and some training of the dog or it may not serve its purpose.

Dog Training - Do It Yourself?

I have trained my labs over the years in every way conceived by man. Many years ago I paid someone to come to the house once a week and work with me one on one with my lab Katie. The success rate was ok but it costs a ton of money and when I had my next dogs, I decided I was going to go another route. I have used the clicker system and that worked ok as well.

If you own dogs, you probably understand how important it is to have them trained properly. If you are getting your first dog, then you really need to read this article and follow through to check out the do it yourself training method developed by Sharda Barker. Are you desperate to find anything that will help you with your dog problem? This series of ebooks and audio tapes is the answer! The best thing is when you train your dog properly you will be happier than ever and your dog will be much happier also. What better situation could a dog lover ask for?

Should You Use A Dog Training Collar On Your Dog?

Dog collars are required for dogs in most towns and cities because you have to have them on a leash, but there are a few different types of dog collars, a few that most people haven't even thought of as actually existing.  Others like the dog shock collar are ones that people consider inhumane, but if they thought about the true purpose they would quickly understand that it is more help than harm, and is actually not painful to the animal at all.

Instead of being a painful jolt, the dog shock collars merely give the animal a wake up call and let them know that they are in the wrong.  It feels no different than a bite from an alpha dog in the pack if they were still wild animals.  It may seem cruel, but it is actually in the dogs nature to deal with sensations such as this, even if they were the alpha dog of the pack.

Other dog training collars involve putting pressure around the dogs chest or neck causing them to instantly stop pulling against the leash while you are walking.  This is a major problem with bigger dogs because of their sheer power, they don't really realize how strong they are, or how much they are pulling you around.  Purchasing a good dog training collar will help you to get a handle on your furry friend and let them know that you are really the pack leader, not them as they want to believe.

Police Dog Basic Training

Every person who has ever taught a pup to sit and stay has done part of the basic training that all police dogs must go through. Yes, the first objective when training a police dog is to help them master obedience training. They MUST obey their handlers, and they must obey instantly for the safety of the handler, the safety of the public, and the safety of the dog.

Police dogs are armed police officers. They do not carry guns, but they do carry teeth - sharp teeth that they can use to kill a person within seconds. And police dogs are trained to kill. They aren't pets. Police dogs are highly trained working dogs. They have jobs, and they take their jobs very, very seriously. We've all seen the movies about police dogs like "Starsky and Hutch" and "K-9." You do need to remember that these are movies, and the dogs that star in them are trained to be actors. They are not trained to be police dogs.

There are some misconceptions about how police dogs are trained. For example, many people think that police dogs are given the "attack" command in a foreign language in order to prevent someone from accidentally ordering the dog to attack, but this isn't true. The reason why the attack command (as well as other commands) is given in a foreign language is because many of the police dogs in service today were born, bred, and trained in different countries. It's the language in which they learned the commands. It's easier to teach handlers to give commands in the language that the dog already understands than to teach the dog the commands in English.

After a police dog fully masters obedience, then he is given additional training in a specialty. Some police dogs are trained to find bombs, while others are trained to find illegal drugs.

Dog Obedience Collar

Many dog trainers and owners will use dog obedience collars, but it is important that you take a look at the dog training collars available and which is right for your dog.

These are the commonly used dog obedience collars:

- Choke Collar
- Prong Collar
- Head Collar
- Harness
- Electronic Collar

A choke collar is generally made of link chains and it is designed to gently choke your dog's neck when pulled. However, it is important to gently tug as you can hurt your dog if not use properly.

A prong collar is said to imitate a mothers teeth when she corrects her puppies. This type of collar has medal prongs that work similar to a choke collar. Once again, this is to be used carefully and it can harm your dog.

A head collar is safer to use. Your dog can still bark, eat and drink while wearing a head collar and it resembles a muzzle. This type of collar is best used on dogs that pull.

A harness is a kind of "body collar" that goes around your dogs chest and you attach the leash to the back. This collar is safe to use and great for any kind of dog and helps reduce the neck strain when your dog pulls.

Lastly, electronic collars are also known as shock collars and these are used by sending a gentle shock to your dog. The shock is controlled by a remote and this type of collar is usually used by trainers that have more experience.

In general, your dog may only need a harness or head collar, if you are considering using a choke collar or electronic collar make sure you consult with your vet or with a professional dog trainer to make sure it is the right choice for you and your dog.
